QCS Commerce & Trade, Series (A) 2012
Textiles from the Tohoku Region
|
Preface:
The disaster of 3/11 - for Japan - is very much like the effect of 9/11 for the United States - regarding its impact on the psyche of the nation as a whole.
However, for Japan, it happened just one year ago.
And with about 10 times the number of fatalities, a disaster zone extending hundred of square miles,
nuclear radiation contamination in a tightly contained no-go zone that will last for decades, not-so-friendly reminders
of the problems by constantly continuing aftershocks and new earthquakes on a daily basis,
how to manage the nations energy needs without such reliance on nuclear energy,
how to deal with the enormous hazardous waste disposal challenge - its toll on the Japanese people is very high indeed.
For businesses and individuals alike, getting back on their feet is a true test.
The Program:
This past January 2012 there was a visit to New York by a trade delegation from Tohoku Japan.
The trade delegation was organized through the offices of JETRO which is the leading export trade promotion entity for Japan.
Representatives from 16 companies, based in the disaster zone of Tohoku Japan,
came to New York City to promote the sale of textiles from the region most affected by the disaster of 3/11/2011 in Japan.
They conducted a brief trade show, held at a site on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
It was briefly reported on, in certain trade publications as well as the Japan Times.
This news was noticed by QCS and as a result our rep. visited the
main office of JETRO in Roppongi Tokyo to obtain further information.
QCS obtained the list of participants in the Tohoku Textiles Trade Delegation.
One of the realities concerning these businesses is that they are mostly small, in some cases with only 10 employees.
And in many cases, English language proficiencies can be a major hurtle.
“If we are to do business globally, we have to do it in English,” said Yanai.
“This is the new reality Japan faces.” --
Tadashi Yanai, the 63-year-old president of Uniqlo’s parent, Fast Retailing Co. (9983) and Japan’s richest man, said last month.
Small companies in Japan may not have the staff to handle many emails or inquiries in languages other than Japanese.
So, if one of these companies were to start getting emails from Italy in Italian, from France in French,
or from New York in the 200 languages spoken here, they might be overwhelmed and unable to respond in the most effective way for the conducting of business.
This is where QCS comes in.
QCS can act as a purchasing agent on behalf of a company that is serious about purchasing and importing their product (TEXTILES).
In many cases the products are unique, of a very fine and high end quality.
As an intermediary, QCS serves as a facilitator to the closing of an export/import sales contract.
Further, through our sister company SEFCO Export Management Company, Inc., we already have a network of agents in
Japan who are in a position to facilitate the actual export process as well as overcome linguistic barriers.
Likewise, Sefco has a broad and well developed network of customs clearing and delivery agents in the United States and around the world.

Matchmaking:
QCS is in the process of contacting select companies (buyers) that may be suitable to a product/sales match.
Only serious inquires from existing companies already in the Textile/Fashion and related industry will be considered at this time.
Other parties are welcome to offer suggestions and support.
Further details on the Japanese Suppliers and Product Lines will be posted on our web site, and invited companies will
be provided a QCS web site username and password to access proprietary information about current business offerings.
Information of a more general nature will be posted on the following web site:
