A unique opportunity
It was mid-April (2018).
On receiving my invitation to the christening ceremony from the ACL/Grimaldi USA team -
to honor the newest Grimaldi ship - the Grande New York at
Port Newark - I decided to attend and have a look... I am so glad that I did.
It was a unique opportunity to hear from and meet the top management of Grimaldi Line and
ACL Atlantic Container Line (USA), to speak to their agents visiting from the EU,
and to socialize with many fellow Forwarding Agents
and Export/Import Shippers from the greater New York area.
Well attended
The host, and guests in attendance, included Mr. Constantino Baldissara (Grimaldi Lines, Commercial Operations & Logistics Director),
Fr. Peter of Bayonne who gave the blessing,
Mr. Andrew Abbott (ACL President & CEO), Grande New York Captain Igor Meneghini, and the "Godmother" of the vessel was Amanda Matilda Cuomo Cole,
granddaughter of the former late New York Governor, Mario Cuomo and niece of the current New York Governor Andrew Cuomo - in a warm tribute to shared Italian heritage.
Points well made
International Shipping Services remains a vital part of the worlds economy.
Yet there are perils on the high seas; the ships able-bodied crew must be highly trained and ever vigilant.
While its a tradition for every new ship to be "christened", its never a bad idea to seek
some "divine intervention" to look after not only the vessel and its cargo, but also the lives of the seamen, Captain and crew,
who travel with these huge ships as they ply the deep blue seas all around the world.
Grimaldi Line, their colleagues at ACL, and Sefco Export are very well positioned
to provide a broad range of specialized shipping services,
working in tandem with partners in the forwarding and customs clearing industry throughout the world.
The opportunity to serve our mutual clientele, particularly in terms of international trade and transport, is ever present.
Good partnerships between carriers, forwarding agents and our shipper/consignee clients hold the promise for
